Gatherings in Bali
As from 23/12/2014 to 29/12/2014, my wife and I had a very nice holiday and family gatherings with our children in Bali. The sweet memory still lingering around at this moment whenever I go through the albums and even till I am writing this article. In actual fact, my wife and I did visit Bali 25 years ago. At that time, Bali was a small town without taxi for rental. Only carriages were available for foreign visitors. There were Hindu temples everywhere, big or small, whether on the road side or in the rice fields. Today, Bali is a modern city attracting the tourists all over the world.
Grand Nikko Hotel,Bali.
We went to Bali two days earlier and stayed at Kuta Central Park Hotel. Our son and the whole family came from Perth to meet us, we then moved out to stay with them at the Grand Nikko Hotel in Nusa Dua. We spent 4 days with them enjoying food cuisines and swimming daily. It was a typical Aussie style holiday, full of relaxation both physically and mentally.
As we all know that Bali is an island and province of Indonesia. Its current population is over 4 million. The majority of its inhabitants are Balinese of Hindu origin and about 84% of the population adheres to Balinese Hinduism. It has become the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, music, sculpture , painting, handicrafts…. etc.
The Swimming Pool
Bali is Aussie’s favourite holiday resort, most of the visitors on the island are Australians especially those from Perth. I think this is due to the great discrepancy in currency exchange rates. For Aussies, this is the cheapest place for them to spend their holidays.
25 years ago, the Balinese economy was largely depended on agriculture in terms of output and employment. Today tourism is the largest single industry in terms of income, and as a result, Bali becomes the wealthiest province of Indonesia and the regions. Tourists from all parts of the world flocked in everyday at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Bali receives around 3 million foreign tourists per year. Most recently, Bali was the host of APEC and Miss World 2013.
At the Pool
The famous tourist zones in Bali are Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua. Sanur beach and Kuta beach are pioneered and fully developed area for tourism. The most popular side is Kuta. It is quite a popular and noisy area. The well-known Bali Bombing which happened in 2002 and 2005 resulting more than two hundred casualties. The two big shopping malls, Matahari and Discovery , are located in Kuta Town area. My wife and I stayed at Kuta area on arrival and moved to Nusa Dua later. Both Nusa Dua and Seminyak are developed in recent years. The beaches there are quiet, calm and tranquil; but they appear to be a bit high class area.
An unforgettable and surprise birthday dinner was arranged by Lucille at the beachside of the Grand Nikko Hotel for Jackson’s 50 birthday celebration. It was indeed a very happy moment when we all shouted “Hi, Bali” while in group photo-taking.
I think the Bali trip is memorable to all concerned.
